Quince Orchard faced a formidable task in traveling to take on 11-2 Blake on their Senior Night, but the Cougars proved up to the challenge, shutting out the Bengals in an epic 1-0 nail-biter. Brooke Beisner pitched a masterpiece, allowing just 4 hits, no walks - in fact, only thrice getting to a count of 2 balls - and striking out 3. In a tight 1-run contest where any mistake would be magnified, the defense backed her up with stellar play. Only once did a Blake baserunner get to 3rd, and Megan Dougherty nearly tagged her out off a throw from Natalya Sizdahkhani. On the next play, Megan Fisher caught a fly ball in right field and gunned the runner out at home on a critical 8-2 double play to Natalya. Had that run scored, it would have been a very different ball game. Other notable defensive plays: Natalya picked off a runner at 2nd; Sydney Zavadil persevered in fielding a tough ball and fighting to get the out to Emily Maxwell at 2nd; and Leanne Youstra notched a tag-out off a difficult throw following a dropped 3rd strike. The most important outs came in the final two innings, with Emily cleanly fielding three 6-3 put-outs, and each outfielder - Megan Fisher, Kelly Coffey and Ellen Goldstein - catching critical fly balls. Ellen's catch to clinch the victory was an impressive grab on the run, deep in foul territory.

Offensively, the Cougars were challenged by Blake's solid pitching and defense which allowed only 4 hits, including 2 from Megan Dougherty. In the 4th inning, Sydney Maxwell singled and Sydney Zavadil drew a walk behind her. With 2 outs, Megan hit an RBI single to score Sydney Maxwell, and that one run stood as the winning run. Congrats to the Cougars on tremendous, well-played, well-coached game, and kudos to Blake for including our seniors in their festivities!
