Coming off QO's upset of Northwest, and the tense 1-run loss to Clarksburg, the Cougars experienced another tight battle with perennial contender Poolesville. QO had a nice day of hitting: the top 7 batters in the line-up each had multiple hits on the day, and they strung together 7 good at-bats in the 5th to take a 4-1 lead: Megan Dougherty got on with a hit and worked her magic on the bases until Emily Maxwell drove her in with a hit. Natalya Sizdahkhani sacrificed to score Emily. Ellen Goldstein followed with a base hit and Leanne Youstra moved her to 3rd with a double. Sydney Maxwell sacrificed to score Ellen, and Brooke Beisner hit to score Leanne. QO appeared to be in control, up 4-2 going into the 7th, but Poolesville battled back. With 2 on, 2 outs, and down to 2 strikes, the Falcons strung together 2 hits to tie the game and send it to extra innings. In the ITB 8th inning, QO played the situation cleanly, allowing the requisite run to score while notching 3 consecutive outs. In the bottom of the 8th, with Leanne starting on 2nd, Sydney Maxwell bunted safely to 1st, moving Leanne to 3rd. Brooke Beisner drove in Leanne on a sacrifice, and Kelly Coffey hit the clutch game-winning, walk-off double to score Sydney. Another nail-biting win in the books!
